Creating a Thriving and Sustainable Tahoe Community

At Tahoe Climate Change Action Network (TCCAN), our purpose is to create the conditions for our community to thrive in one of the most respected and protected natural wonders of the world—Lake Tahoe. We are dedicated to driving sustainable and environmentally beneficial policies and programs that not only protect our stunning surroundings but also serve as a model for the millions of visitors who come here each year. Through our efforts, we aim to inspire communities far and wide to embrace change and work towards a sustainable future.

Our Vision: Leading the Charge for a Sustainable Future

TCCAN envisions a future where Tahoe stands as a beacon of sustainability, where grassroots efforts and local support coalesce to significantly reduce carbon emissions and increase sustainable practices. We are committed to enhancing the well-being of our community and ecosystem by creating the political and social will necessary to pioneer cutting-edge renewable energy solutions. Our goal is to localize Tahoe’s electricity grid, thereby increasing our community’s resilience and control over our City-wide carbon footprint.

Empowering Our Community

We believe that true change begins with education and the power of collective voice. TCCAN is dedicated to empowering community members by providing the knowledge and tools they need to advocate for sustainable practices and policies. Through education and active engagement, we aim to turn concerned citizens into passionate climate champions, ready to make a difference in their community.

Building Lasting Partnerships

Collaboration is key to our success. TCCAN is focused on creating lasting partnerships with civic organizations and other stakeholders to build a community that is both sustainable and resilient. Our collaborative efforts include:

Advocating for 100% Renewable Energy

TCCAN is a powerful advocate for the City of South Lake Tahoe’s aspirational goal of achieving 100% renewable energy, 24/7, by 2030. We apply political pressure and work closely with local government to facilitate the realization of this goal, as well as support other sustainable initiatives that will lead to a more resilient and eco-friendly Tahoe.
